EAA compliance laws by country
The European Accessibility Act is an EU directive. Each member state writes its own implementing law. This index links to the directive itself and to the national transposition for the countries we currently support.
European Accessibility Act (EAA)
The EU-wide accessibility directive. Sets uniform accessibility requirements for covered products and services across all 27 member states so businesses do not face 27 different national rulebooks.
Germany: Barrierefreiheitsstaerkungsgesetz (BFSG)
Germany's federal transposition of the EAA. Mirrors the directive's scope and pushes enforcement to the federal states (Laender) with caps up to EUR 100,000 per violation.
France: EAA transposition (Ordonnance 2023-859 + Decret 2023-931)
France transposed the EAA via Ordonnance 2023-859 (substantive rules) and Decret 2023-931 (implementing detail). Builds on the existing RGAA framework for the public sector.
Spain: EAA transposition (Real Decreto-ley 6/2023)
Spain transposed the EAA via Real Decreto-ley 6/2023 of 19 December 2023. Enforcement is led by the Direccion General de Politicas de Discapacidad.
Italy: EAA transposition (Decreto Legislativo 82/2022)
Italy transposed the EAA via D.Lgs. 82/2022 of 27 May 2022. Builds on the long-standing Legge Stanca (L. 4/2004) framework for accessibility.
Netherlands: Implementatiewet toegankelijkheidsvoorschriften
The Netherlands transposed the EAA via the Implementatiewet toegankelijkheidsvoorschriften. Day-to-day supervision sits with the Autoriteit Consument & Markt (ACM) and sector regulators.
